Ultrasound
Ultrasound examination techniques for the digestive and urogenital tract, as well as superficial structures.
The examination is non-invasive and involves no radiation, so it is easy to repeat when we monitor a change over the course of treatment.

We perform the ultrasound in the same clinic where the laboratory work is done, so the image of the organs and the blood results are interpreted together, in the same visit.
Scope of the examination
Examinations we perform
Examinations of the urinary and digestive tract, superficial structures and tumours.
An ultrasound examination shows the structure of organs: size, shape, relation to the surrounding tissues and changes that cannot be felt from the outside. That is why we most often recommend it for digestive and urinary problems, for changes under the skin and when we monitor a known change over time.
We look at the ultrasound finding together with the clinical examination and laboratory analyses. Ultrasound shows what an organ looks like, and the laboratory shows how it works — only together do they provide the basis for a treatment decision.
Some findings also require an X-ray examination, because bones, the chest and foreign bodies are better seen on an image. If that is the case, we will suggest it during the same visit.
Is an ultrasound examination painful?
Ultrasound is a non-invasive examination — the probe is placed against the skin and causes no pain. Your pet lies or stands during the exam with your help, and we work at a pace that suits them.
Is sedation needed for an ultrasound?
Mostly not. With extremely restless or painful patients, we will assess together with you whether calming is necessary for the examination to be reliable at all.
What preparation is needed before an abdominal ultrasound?
For examining the digestive and urogenital tract, it is advisable that your pet does not eat right before the exam, and for the bladder exam the bladder should be full. When you book the appointment, we will guide you through everything that is needed.
